CommEnSpace specializes in partnering with environmental and community groups to produce maps, landscape analysis and to develop custom data. Through close collaboration, we gain an understanding of our partners’ communications and analytical needs. Our job is to find appropriate ways to use GIS technology to enhance their work by providing:

Maps that Communicate
Whether it’s getting a complicated message into the media or demonstrating success to a funder, maps can tell a powerful story in ways that statistics and tables can’t. We’ve provided maps that have helped more than 75 organizations raise millions of dollars for conservation, tell their story to funders and build their constituencies.

Meaningful Analysis
How many new residents moved into high density neighborhoods in the last 10 years? What farmlands are at greatest risk of development? How much state money is being spent per child in the area of each social service agency? Geographic Information Systems can help answer complicated questions. We use GIS to put analytical power and the credibility of data within reach of organizations who can use it to improve communities.

Innovation
We make smart use of new technology – animations that show the landscape change over time; interactive maps on the web that allow users to explore and query information; PowerPoint presentations that distil complex stories into key images and themes.

Strategic Planning
Among many non-profits, the pressure to think strategically, to understand the big picture while working on the details, is significant. Using digital mapping technology to combine data from various governmental and private sources, we’ve helped groups prioritize large land acquisition programs, develop recovery plans for endangered species and identify locations for legal actions.
